Tales of a Cali Girl in a Southern town - weather

I came from a city in Southern California where the temperature remained a constant 70-75 degrees. It was perfect every day. I could walk outside and know that the sun would be shining and the weather would once again be awesome. I knew that any day I could usually wear a skirt and tank top, but often I could also wear (and did) jeans and a t-shirt. It was wonderful, and yet, it was also super boring.

Now I live in Northern Alabama and the weather here is, well, weather.

Yesterday there was a lightening storm which lit up the sky. The lightening danced through the clouds silently and put on a show like one I have never seen before. That is how it is here.

There are lightening and thunder storms galore and I revel in them. I walk outside like a five year old child and watch as the sky lights up and listen as thunder rocks through my neighborhood. I watch as storm clouds twist and curl around each other, showing off ballet moves I never knew existed (and one of my sisters was a ballerina for years). Rain falls in rivers and streams from dark clouds that brighten with shots of lightening. I still stand there an watch, getting drenched and loving every minute of it.

See this Cali girl has seen rain, but she hasn't seen this much or rain like this. It's fascinating and beautiful, and the smells are divine.

The only thing I dislike about the weather in this Southern town is the humidity. Especially now, while I am struggling with a chest cold or bronchitis (whichever it is). It feels like death is embracing me in a tight, sweaty hug. I can shower, but when I get out of the shower I feel the need to turn around and do it again. The humidity is stifling. It makes it hard to breathe. It makes it hard to be a woman with curly hair. It makes it hard to wear clothes. It makes it hard to enjoy being outside. I'd rather it didn't exist.

So, while I love having weather, I could do without the hot humid days.
