I have wanted to go to Centralia, PA ever since I heard about the town on fire. I wish I could say that now that I have fulfilled my goal of visiting I was satisfied, but I am not. Unfortunately, the town really isn't on fire like it used to be. I am sure it was a site to see when it first happened or even ten years ago when it was still burning. I am also sure the fire is still down there otherwise they would reopen the town, fix it up and let people move back in. But, since it is still lightly burning, there is nothing they can do. Most of the buildings have been torn down, which is unfortunate, because a ghost town would also have been cool to explore. There really wasn't must to see but the cracks in the street, the graffiti and the cemeteries. There were a few mounds of dug up asphalt, and a few buildings, but nothing like the pictures led me to believe. This is one of the best pictures that I got. The grass is growing up in the fissures that the heat from the fires created. It's actually quite lovely and sad. To be honest it makes me think of the future and if an apocalyptic occurrence happens will this be what the world looks like? If the world is destroyed by humans how long before graffiti and nature meld? Beauty is what we make of it, and I find beauty in the destruction of what we have built and beauty in the life that takes back what we stole from it.
